If the amount of fast-food restaurants opening up in Ghana is anything to go by, chicken and fried rice seems to be overtaking kenkey as a staple of the Ghanaian diet. From roadside vendors to international chains like Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), chicken and fried rice features on every menu and is sold on every street corner. Below is a lost is a list of all the gut-busting fast food restaurants in Accra. None of the international chains have spread beyond Accra - yet!

The McDonald's of Ghana, Papaye's red and yellow frontage is instantly recognisable. Excellent grilled and crispy-fried chicken, fried fish and grilled fish kebabs. Very inexpensive, take away or eat in.

Mr Bigg's falls under the exoctic fast foods founded 1973 in Nigeria. Their products includes Nigerian delicacies and UAC foods-branded products. Mr. Bigg's specialty is meat pie. A  common lunch might also include scotch eggs, a sugared donut, chicken and soft drinks. While western fare such as hamburgers is served, Nigerian delicacies such as jollof rice,fried rice and moin moin are more popular. Their packaging and pricing is higher and therefore needs certain societal people to purchase their food. Mr. Bigg's is Nigeria's first chain of fast food restaurants, there are currently around 170 locations in Nigeria,including the country's first drive-through restaurant,with another four locations in Ghana.

Noodles is enjoyed by almost every Ghanaian and Foreigners. It is fast when preparing. Ga Kenkey And Fried Fish



The image above is Kenkey and fried fish. Kenkey is a popular food of Ga the  tribe in Ghana. It is made of corn. It goes through processes  drying, soaking ,milling of the corn, and a dough is made before one can proceed to mould it into a round object covered by corn husks  before it is boiled. Then a fish is fried to match it. It important to note that Kenkey can taken with grinded pepper or stew of different kinds.  The Gas who see Kenkey as a Chief food call it ”Komey k3 Kena” meaning Kenkey and fish. In fact is a fast food afforded by all class of people and can be enjoyed any time of the day except at dawn due to the fact that one can be able to burn the starch around that time. Though it is a chief food of the Gas, it is consumed by all the other tribes. It will interest one to know that foreigners trooping into the Country also enjoy this popular delicacy.
